The story of Gindendo begins over 400 years ago.
Its origin lies with Hirata Donin, a metalworker active from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to the early Edo period. In 1611, he was employed by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and
in 1616, he was granted a residence in Gofuku-cho, Edo.
The history continued to unfold, and in the early 18th century, Hirata Zennojo established a business specializing in forging, engraving, and inlaying, with silver as the main material, in Yushima.
This lineage, which branched off from Shippo Hirata, was called the "Forging Hirata School," and it was here that the lineage of "Ginshi" (silver masters) specializing in silver was established.
